B in the bubble!

It's a small world after all, isn't it? Especially when living in NYC, life is 6 degrees of separation and you've never met a "stranger." While contemplating the highs and lows of this tiny bubble we live in (in NYC and beyond), I started making a mental check list of the pros and cons...

Pro: You'll always find someone you know (or have met before) at a party.
Con: It's conceivable that you have already seen those same 150 people before at a previous gathering, and have already determined how well you do or don't want to get to know them.

Pro: A solid (or solid enough) reference call can be made if you need a background check.
Con: They can do the same to you.

Pro: It's easy to get information about who, what, when, where, why - to go, do, buy, think, taste, etc.
Con: Group think.

Pro: 9 times out of 10, someone at work, at brunch, or in the salon can appreciate your story cause they are somewhat familiar with the characters.
Con: It's gossip. And you will get busted.

Pro: You know he (or she) is an AMAZING catch before you officially meet them.
Con: Your line sister (or brother) already dated them.

Pro: You have a built in network before you move to the city.
Con: The city is clique-ish. Did you really sign up for 4 more years of college?

Pro: Theoretically you always have the option to "switch it up."
Con: It starts to feel so claustrophobic that "switching it up" might mean moving to a different city.

All in all, I wouldn't trade it, but it does have it's drawbacks. What about you?

B Craved: Beyonce in London

B CRAVED...
I decided to be vigilant after receiving a tip that Jay and Bey were on the scene while a group of friends and I were traveling in Barcelona. But before any Euro-sightings ensued, Bey was already on the road and making fashion waves in London. Here's a little cheat sheet to get her comfortably chic look for less. Are you ready for shoulder pads...?

Or Save!

B Loved: Cafe Ronda

There's no better way to spend a Sunday afternoon than having brunch in NYC - Al Fresco. Cafe Ronda is my newest love because of one sensational selection - the incredible, edible, baked eggs. I don't know how it works, but the eggs are baked in ceramic dishes with cheese, and other goodness like Argentinian sausage. Plus, the latin coffee is strong, bold, flavorful, and overall - perfect.  It's definitely worth a trip to the Upper West to check out the midday specialties offered exclusively at Cafe Ronda, located on 249 Columbus Avenue.

B a (funny) President?

President Obama jokes about:
  • The 10-day anniversary of his "1st 100 Days in office"
  • First Lady Michelle Obama's "right to bear arms"
  • Grounding Sasha & Malia for joy-riding on Air Force One

Love it!

B Quoted...

To keep me happy there's no limit to the things you did
And all my childhood memories
Are full of all the sweet things you did for me
And even though I act crazy
I gotta thank the Lord that you made me
~ Tupac Shakur "Dear Mama"

Happy Mothers Day to all the special women who impacted our lives!

B Loved: Shirataki Noodles

It's difficult to pronounce, and even harder to track down in your local grocer... but once you do, the pay off is HUGE!
Shirataki is noodle-shaped tofu that comes in spaghetti, fettuccine, and angel hair varieties. This miracle food is fiber-rich, only 20 calories per serving (0 Points for Weight Watchers followers), and most importantly, tastes like the real thing! You can boil it or pop it in the microwave for 60 seconds to prepare. Keep it light by adding veggies, low-fat cheese, or my fave - salsa! Guilt free pasta...Prego!

America's Next Top Look-a-Like?

Tyra has been turning everyday girls into model for 11/12/13 cycles, but is she preening undiscovered talent, or just recreating look-a-likes of the most famous supermodels to rock the runway? You decide.

Teyonna has the piercing gaze and wet look of Beverly Peele.

Allison stangely ellicits the doe-eyed look of 90's supermodel Trish Goff.

Celia is an easy throwback to Linda Evangelista and its all about the cheekbones.

Aminat has the similar "exotic girl next door" look and slamming body of model pro Roshumba.

Fo is a face girl with a rock hard edge thank to a punk crop like (Angie's ex) Jenny Shimizu.

Natalie's ambigious ethnic intrigue came second to her good looks, much liker former ANTM mentor, Janice Dickinson.

B Trendy: Military Gear

It may be time to stop deploying the troops, but the fashion statements will live on. The military trend has evolved from fatigues to dog tags and now - smart, embellished jackets.

Jennifer Hudson rocks a tempered version of the trend, proving that one statement piece is enough to pull together a basic outfit. Try this version from Alvin Valley.

Top fashion editor Nina Garcia always chooses chic pieces, and this ensemble is no exception with its clean lines and tame embellishments. Try this version from Browns Fashion.

Showstopper, Britney Spears, goes all out in a military jacket with a pseudo-ring master feel.

Trendsetter, Rihanna, won't be left out with this popular denim rendition from Balmian.

Guys enlist in the military trend too!

"I start a picture and I finish it. I don't think about art while I work. I try to think about life." ~ Jean Michael Basquiat

Always remember the big picture. Even the unpleasantries are steps towards the end goal.
